About this event
We will be visiting the famous Natural Bridge State Park where we can view one of the most spectacular rock formations arguably in the world. There will also be the opportunity to visit waterfalls, caves or perhaps a picnic lunch.
George Washington surveyed the area in 1750 and is rumored to have carved his initials into the limestone. In 1774, Thomas Jefferson purchased the bridge and 157 acres from King George III of England for 20 shillings. Jefferson called it "the most Sublime of nature's works" and built a small cabin on-site, employing a freed African American named Patrick Henry to act as the first caretaker and guide for travelers. During the Revolutionary War and War of 1812, the nearby Saltpeter Cave was mined for potassium nitrate to make gunpowder.
More information on ticket prices, parking, and hotel info will be forthcoming. Check back in the Fall 2026 for more.
