Biography
I could say I blame Jane Austen for my Regency escapades, but it actually began with the movie "Master and Commander'..then those books...then Hornblower. Through RSV, I have learned more about the geopolitical history of this time in England as well as American events. I like learning about the culture of the times - especially travel, art, and the development of sciences at this time. The roles of women of the time, and where women stepped out into less traditional pursuits is of eternal interest. Book Club: recommended!
To me, the Regency period is good for almost everything I like to do already - read, write, learn to sew, knit, dust off embroidery skills from the 70s, laugh and be silly, ... Most of all I adore handwriting letters and am not above penning some doggerel. Not being the bestest of seamstresses, mundanities such as fans as pence purses grab my attention and set me to trying to learn new handiwork skills and also to thrifting items that work for Regency, like baskets and jewelry. I recently learned the term 'pocket trash' and could get into that! My latest focus is Regency-era magazines, and I am working on producing one for the enjoyment of the polite society of the RSV.
